This is an ad that I pass a lot on the way to the city.
My first reaction to this was, er, the marketing team really went wrong - surely this’d turn people OFF eating that product. But I’ve been thinking about it (and took ages trying to find this post so I could reblog!) but I’m wondering whether their aim is to “normalise” eating a lamb. I mean, to me - it’s absurd but to the majority of meat eaters, they’ve got blinders on. I’ve seen it so many times, the horrified look they get on their face when I say, “dude, you do know what you’re eating?!” and they literally clap their hands over their ears and tell me that they just don’t want to know.
An advertising campaign like this one could go one of two ways, alarm people, or reassure them that what they’re doing is “right” even though it “seems wrong”. Hopefully this gets more people thinking about where their food comes from. And what it actually IS. Either way, fuck McDonalds, haven’t eaten there in years and never will again.
(an anon just messaged and asked whether i knew the ad was altered - and yes! i can see where “fresh from the nursery - the seriousdeathburger” was added, plus the lamb’s head - but the mary had a little lamb part is from the actual ad, isn’t it?)
