Big Major Spot Island in the Bahamas is also known as ‘Pig Beach’ because of the feral but friendly pigs that live there. Visitors who sail up to the island are greeted by athletic pigs who paddle out to the boats in anticipation of free food and vittles. In the past few years, tourists have spoiled the pigs by handing out whole sandwiches, vegetables, pieces of meat, and other foodstuffs that the animals have come to take for granted. During the day, the pigs may be seen lolling around on the white sand beaches and catching some rays but they also take a dip in the crystal clear waters of the Bahamas. Big Major Spot is uninhabited by humans but the constant stream of locals and tourists keep the pigs well fed and friendly.
